Essential Duty of Care
Department of Transport figures show that around 3,500
people are killed on Britain's roads every year. With
40,000 serious injuries and over 300,000 casualties each year, the
Government is committed to an aggressive policy to reduce road accidents
and has set ambitious targets for 2010.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, somewhere between 25%
to 33% of road traffic accidents involve someone who is at work at
the time. They have published ‘Driving at Work: Managing work-related
road safety’, which can be downloaded from their website. It
contains essential information on how to implement their guidelines.
In addition, we recommend you read the excellent ‘Managing Occupational Road Risk’ from RoSPA, as it provides essential information on the subject.
